we went a month without electricity and a week without water here on the gulf coast in 2005. my wife and i have been avid primitave campers our whole lives so we knew how to get by on campfires and creek water so that helped a lot. we had the tools and the practical and practiced know-how to get by.
there was never any looting in our area, just a sence of mutual help in our community. it's all about where you live.
the thing that affected our area the most was lack of potable water and fuel. we and some others have a good deep wells and the ability to draw it without elect. but fuel was a problem. a lot more tractors on the road than cars and trucks for a while and nobody went into town without asking their neighbors if they needed something while they were going.
it's all about community.
if it had lasted for a year, i don't know how things would have worked out. hope we never find out.
many here are better prepaired now than we were then with more food and some solar and fuel stocks, especially with the Atlantic heating up again.
 best of luck everyone
