GMO seeds cannot be purchased by anyone except farmers. GMO are DNA from two things that could never possibly cross in nature ie. an animal and a plant.
Open pollinated are not difficult to find. You just need to know which varieties are open pollinated instead of hybrid. Open pollinated seeds are not just for beginning gardeners. Many beginning gardeners do not know whether or not they are buying open pollinated or hybrid.
Sometimes plants such something that tastes or smells like a different type of plant is a mutation - nothing caused by human intervention. Just chosen afterwards and propagated.
