The advantage of the AR would be capacity but you said 2 shots which is about average in a home defense situation. If there were multiple attackers we are talking a different situation.

As for legalities I would much rather face a jury for shooting someone with a shotgun that our wonderful ( sarc ) president says is what we need than with one of the dreaded Assault Rifles’ that only killers and crazy preppers have
